What is ‘Credit Score’?

Modified on Tue, 16 Aug, 2022 at 6:28 AM

A credit score is a three-digit number (between 300 and 900) calculated by a credit bureau based on an individual's credit history.

Experian, TransUnion (CIBIL), Equifax, and CRIG Highmark are the four RBI-approved credit bureaus in India.

Banks and NBFCs (Non-Banking Financial Companies) are required to share their customers' credit histories with all four credit bureaus on a regular basis which enables the credit bureaus to come up with a Credit Score for every individual. The credit history captures all credit accounts from all the lender, limits of loan and credit card(s) availed, including EMIs, credit card repayment history, any defaults, or delays on a credit account, and so on.
